" Hey guys -- here with cnet.com and joining me today our senior writer in -- has become an up and associate editor Josh listen. I get -- we all know all the hype apple just unveiled its I had after many rumors and speculations. Everybody's talking about this thing but we wanted to ask the question is -- legally to succeed. Or they also -- what they're out there this is multi functional device we really haven't seen something like it but where does that replace anything that we have already you know." " I think there's only one or two things it might replace its not her place phone it's not gonna replace a laptop. It might be a different option for people that want something like you know it's a portable entertainment device so if you wanna browse the web if you wanna read magazines newspapers. Watch some movies you might replace. Something else you might -- but it's not replace any art." " That would by Josh but he gets it somewhere in the middle for people oriented iPhone I'm a little bit bigger. And for people who want a laptop it's not quite a laptop so it's it's in this kind of middle comfort zone where it's now one thing the other. So I think there's certainly a market for that and we'll just see -- it is -- for you individually and as a replace anything that you guys have -- I travel a lot." " And so I have a can right now. It's not as good for reading books as the Kindle I don't think but it is better for magazines newspapers and obviously can -- a bunch of other things so as long as a battery life's okay it might it might guy kick the can a lot of my backpack. It's tough for me is." " I have an iPhone and I have a laptop so I don't really need this. If I didn't have a laptop and I just an iPhone. This might be nice kind of entry level way to get into and that I kind of type of computing. Because it does have a few more features -- the iPhone. You know bigger screen for one and longer battery life and in some circumstances though you know I think for people who don't have laptops this this is a good kind of step up from one area." " No there's plenty of features we can go down the list we're not going to you but is there are featured I think is really hope this device succeed or maybe a feature that this doesn't have. That's really get that potentially make it fail." " I think one thing that still really messing -- multitasking. And on the iPhone this is still kind of a problem because other phones have it on and it's becomes an even bigger problem with something like a tablet because this is actually. I kind of a computer. And so if you have a computer they can't run multiple lapses and time you're missing out some really fun parts about. I'm having -- a full size." " Here and that's one -- it's again we there's really no definition for as -- of some people might classify as computer so people don't even classify as computer so. Is a multi multitasking. That -- it also is part of the battery life rate if you have a lot of multitasking the battery life. Goes away is there any killer feature that you think will help us succeed." " I think there are some -- emissions that flash support I think the one thing that made. Really save the date for apple it's people love multi touch and a lot of people are criticizing the fact that there isn't some new interface but. I've seen the way people react the Microsoft surface. And a lot of people are like how the surface and in some senses the -- is it is a way to start to get that experience people love and on the iPhone but this. It's gonna open up to developers and new opportunities." " We'll killer surface they couldn't have thousand dollars and get a coffee table their rates. At some point you can't do that yet if you Google the real -- Yeah -- now. Bottom line who is this for. And it if it before is for people who might have I found and they want that same conference experience -- you on something a little bit bigger. As for people looking for -- like a really portable version of Mac OS-X. On some things like a tablet. It's it's not meeting those needs." " I mean I think the netbook is you know if we started before netbooks and say who's this or we'd of had a tough time -- people bought them so I think it is for people that want. A portable computing experience at a consumer price immunity it's 500 dollars it starts that's consumer price. On but it is it is another device and so you know I think. It doesn't have to have a total crap out of the gate but I think pretty quickly. They're gonna have to be some experiences of people like gas and willing to pay for it -- we -- know what those are I think we've got to give developers some time. The fact is iPhone apps will run this but give developers a few months and they're gonna IMAP that really work for this specific." " So bottom line it will -- things will work Josh yeah I don't think it's gonna do -- while the iPhone has them. I tend to agree I mean I think that future versions of the I'd that'll probably be better more like the original -- iPod it takes a little time to go about our guys things up coming out and -- happily and see this. Device the I -- become -- out store shelves in late march the cnet.com I'm Brian --" " Hi I'm Molly -- host of the Buzz Report the show about the tech news that everybody's talking about.
